How to run a downtown scavenger hunt date
- Choose your turf. Any walkable downtown, historic square, or outdoor mall works. Set boundaries, like "inside these four streets."
- Print one sheet per team. Couples play head-to-head, and groups split into pairs or couple vs. couple.
- Set the clock. 60–90 minutes, with a meeting spot that serves drinks. The losers buy the first round.
- Prove it. Every find needs a photo with a teammate in the shot. Hard items earn more points.
- Score and share. Swap phones at the bar, settle disputes by majority vote, and add up the points.
Play it safe and keep it friendly
- Stay on public property and don't go anywhere you'd need permission to enter.
- Don't photograph strangers without asking. Most squares are about places and things, not people.
- No running into traffic for points. Nothing on this list is worth it.
- Tip the street musician. That one's on the sheet.
Questions
Will this work in a small town?
Yes. The list sticks to things most downtowns have: old buildings, signs, benches, murals, and local shops. If you can't find something, there's plenty else to score.
Can we do it at a mall?
Most items work indoors. Swap the outdoor ones for store finds and agree on any substitutions before you start.
